The Great Idea: My sister and her husband live 20 minutes from Lake Geneva and recommended that we leave the kids at their house sometime and have a night away at a resort there.

The Response:  Um...OKAY!

The Weekend: this first one of May as an early celebration for our 11th anniversary.

The Result: Kids want to stay at Aunt Jamie and Uncle Steve's again soon (convenient for us!); we got to recharge our batteries, and kids got some good bonding time with their aunt and uncle.  Happiness all around!

It's amazing what just one quick evening off of parenting responsibilities can do for a person.  Here are some characteristics of a kid-less evening:
  • Minimal potty breaks
  • Shopping in stores with a million jillion little things - many of which are breakable
  • No begging (okay, less begging)
  • No refereeing
  • Restaurants without chicken fingers on the menu
  • Walking.  Lots - wherever we wanted.
  • 2 1/2 hour dinner
  • NO cartoons on in the hotel room
  • Only 1 bed in the hotel room
  • One suitcase
  • Conversations.  Complete from start to finish with no interruptions.  About what we want to talk about.
  • A chance for bonding...a reminder why we decided to have those crazy kids in the first place!
