School's Out For Summer!

Tuesday, August 9, 2011
Seems like just last week I chalked that very sentence in gigantic letters on our driveway for when the kids got off the bus.  Now, they're going back.  Soon.

I can't say I'm the type of parent who is counting down until his/her freedom when school is back in session.  I have just SO enjoyed this latter part of summer!  Take today, for example.  I had made a list of 4 things we could do today for the kids to vote on, which included hiking at a nearby forest preserve.  What was the unanimous choice?  Stay at home and play.  And so we did.

From 8am-12pm the kids were in the basement playing (and only then did they get dressed for the day).  What started as Play-Doh morphed into Easy-Bake-Everything-We-Can which turned into a mock birthday party which transitioned into an all-out dance party complete with disco lights!  I mean, you can't PLAN this stuff!  Then, later in the day, they removed a screen from a back window and played McDonald's drive-thru complete with happy meal toy giveaways!

Combine this with the fact that it's been a while since we've sat down to eat in the evening and Cole hasn't deemed the meal "the best dinner ever" and I'm pretty much in heaven!  He even gave me the title of "best maker ever."

Who would want this to end?  Not me.

Best maker ever??? OMG...music to my ears!! You do know how lucky you are, right??? Kelly recently took Lauren shopping at Border's and told her she could buy one thing. Her choice? "Something for me and my best friend Ya-Ya. Hmmm...let's see..." She ended up with? A cookbook for us to share!! It just doesn't get any better than that!!!!
