How Kids Can Surprise You

Thursday, December 9, 2010
Paige is almost eight.  In second grade!  And with this knowledge and the time of year, I've been bearing down for the inevitable questioning of the Christmas myth.  Paige is a very faithful person and so wants to believe EVERYthing.  But her friends are with her 6 hours of the day and many of those friends have older siblings and, well, they talk.  So I was ready.

But I wasn't expecting this.  Instead of coming home from school with doubt, she came home with an unbelievable hand-written guide on ordering your own elf from the North Pole!  (Some friend had given her sketchy directions that resembled that of the popular Elf on the Shelf).  She got Will involved and they wrote to Santa asking him for such an elf and are waiting patiently for the 13th (??) when they should expect it.

Super pumped that I'm dealing with THIS issue instead of what I was expecting, we ordered the Elf on the Shelf to be delivered by the 13th so that we can keep the believing alive!

Here's something that DIDN'T surprise me.  While talking about what Paige would want for her birthday tonight at dinner, she topped this list with - a lifetime supply of chicken...preferably legs.
