On Food

First, I'd like to start with a bit of dietitian talk. There are many reasons to decrease your consumption of red meat what with the saturated fat and cholesterol. I recently came up with another. More fat = increased risk of fire.

That's right. We had a grease fire last night in our oven while broiling a flank steak (which still managed so smell awesome, by the way). It took the use of a fire extinguisher, made the smoke alarms sound and made us retreat to the basement with our Mexican take-out for the evening. While I'm SO thankful that the oven is still in working order, I learned something. Fire extinguishers can make a mess that rivals only, well, a fire. There was a fine layer of dust (chemicals) on every surface of our house - clear to the upstairs, not to mention the ultimate mess that was the oven. But the take home message is to be sure to have one within a couple steps of the oven/stove. I have learned just how quickly dangerous things can erupt.

And for more on the subject of food:
  • Tonight I made our favorite shrimp linquini dish to redeem myself
  • My family is DEFINITELY addicted to clemintines right now
  • And we're also pretty into 100 calorie bags of Orville's Kettle corn - it is also the ONLY type out there that does not contain milk. Score!

I'm checking our extinguisher right when I get off the computer! It's probably so old it wouldn't work. And my dad used to own a fire extinguisher business. Nice.

Glad everyone/everything is ok!

Mmm. I love that shrimp dish. And so does Jared...minus the shrimp.
