1. I am not a proponent for playdates on school days. And here's why: first, Paige has then been gone for 8 hours and I have missed her dearly and along with all the "to-do's" of the evening, I would just like some time to hang out with her. In addition, I strongly encourage homework right after school. Right now, it really wouldn't matter. For example, tonight was a math worksheet (5 min) and a book report (10 min), but I want to build-in that way of doing things before homework does become more substantial.
(Pertinent sidenote: Paige just came to the banister after being put to bed and tearfully called my name. When I asked her what she wanted she stated, "Um, I'm thinking about college and how much I'm going to miss you." Seriously! What do you say to that?)
2. I hugely dislike smushing small children into snow gear. Today we had a sledding plan and it took me 20 minutes to get myself and the boys dressed appropriately. Thankfully, the fun MAJORLY outweighed that hassle. And that's the way it should be.

oh, don't even mention going away for college. it's scary how fast it is going to come.
"Smushing" is the perfect word to explain snow gear. I put Evelyn into a snowsuit once and it was like the boy from A Christmas Story who couldn't move his arms or legs. Poor kids. And Paige! What sensitivity. She never seizes to amaze me.
PAIGE! please stop thinking like that. Makes me cry.
Oh, Miss Paige and her tender heart. Perhaps these tears were motivated by the amount of time away (i.e., school, play day, etc.) and she was feeling much the same as you? She missed her "mommy time" too but couldn't articulate it. OMG, 7-year-olds are so much older than they used to be!!
Oh, sweet Paige. It's so funny (not "ha-ha" funny) how when they are tired, the most benign things can send them over the edge. Again, I know it was not funny, but how could you NOT laugh when she said it?
As to the snowsuit smushing, I agree with Alli - my first thought was "I can't put my arms down!!" and "Randy lay there like a slug...it was his only defense."
Glad you had fun sledding, though. CANNOT WAIT to do that with Lolo Monkey...smushing and all. :)
How funny...we just got back from sledding this afternoon! Even worse than the initial smooshing is when they decide to shed all their cloths in the car...and I have to carry in armfulls of gloves, hats, boots, snow pants, coats...and the mail.
