Part 1 - The Restaurant
Friday night we decided to meet Rich after work at a Japanese restaurant near his work where they cook right at your table, thinking the kids would get a kick out of it. It was a BLAST! Will loved the soup (which is basically just broth) that you eat with a strange spoon with "big walls," as Will put it.

Both kids had shrimp and chicken and were amazed by the chef's ability to catch an egg in his pocket, make a flaming volcano out of onions and simply how fast he could do everything. But then WE were amazed with how the big kids cleaned their plates! It wasn't definite if Cole was feeling back to 100% after his feverish couple days. After eating 1/2 a soynut butter and jelly and some pears, he had lost interest and was more intrigued by the female wait staff who kept making goo-goo eyes at him. To keep him seated, we had to resort to the "emergency sucker" that stays in my purse at all times (for occasions such as this). It worked and we were able to enjoy our dinner. As Paige put it perfectly, "This is, like, heaven." :)

Part 2 - Flu in July
So, what ended up being a fever and loss of appetite for Cole was full-blown flu for Paige. She was feverish by mid-Saturday and was getting ill come evening. The good news is that our history with her flu behavior has made us pros at taking all the necessary precautions. Here they are:
1. lined plastic wastebasket beside bed
2. old towel under wastebasket for overspray - very useful
3. bed lined with bed pad stolen from hospital
4. hair pulled back in ponytail holder
5. non-essentials removed from bed (stuffed animals, throw pillows)
6. bathroom in "go mode" with toilet seat up, night light on
7. sugarless bubble gum ready in bathroom (great for after the fact to get a better taste and calm her down while we clean up)
8. bucket and wash rag ready to go
And that's about it!

Luckily, it appears as if we're benefiting from her getting older because we only had 1 mess to clean up. (The rest made it to where it should be). Poor thing does NOT enjoy this (as most don't) so I hope last night was the end of it.

Ooooh, too funny Karen! That's so cool that the kids loved the Japanese experience!! And poor Paige. Your "foresight" in that regard cracked me up, but better safe than sorry!! Sounded like you had it under total control, as usual! Hope she's feeling back to normal by now. A hot horse barn is no place for the faint-of-heart or weak-of-stomach!!!!! Love you!

i hope she's feeling better today.

What a great list! I'm totally stealing it! I knew I was holding on to those hospital bed pads (from Brady's delivery!) for a good reason!
