This morning Paige, Will and I were making whole wheat chocolate chip muffins (milk free! Woohoo!). They have their usual jobs. Paige is in charge of eggs and stirring. Will handles the mix, water, and oil (his favorite). Anyway, they did this lickety split and I was raving about how great they were doing and how they didn't used to do this as easily, etc. Paige states, "Wait. Are you saying I didn't used to be a good cooker?" I checked her facial expression to see if maybe this was supposed to be humorous. Nope. So I used my super-mom quick thinking skills and said, "No, you have always been a great cook(er), but not this fast and clean!" Whew! Argument averted.

At dinner, when we have a new dish or just a dinner that hits the spot, we often "rate" it using a thumbs-up, thumbs-sideways, or thumbs-down scale. We hold our fists out and we say, "Ding, ding, ding DING" and on the 4th one we all rate the food in question. (Sidenote: this is a great way to get kids to try new things and even worked very well for an autistic child I once worked with). Anyway, tonight Cole joined in and we couldn't believe it. He gave dinner (white chicken chili, salad and crescent rolls) two thumbs down. However, judging from his plate, he wasn't using the scale correctly. But, hey, sign language!

love the rating system! and that cole was participating, too, even if he didn't quite "get it"!
Um...white chicken chili? Salad? Crescent rolls? Two VERY ENTHUSIASTIC thumbs up. Three of my favorite things. You rock, Mom! Apparently, being a good cooker runs in the family...er.
What a fun way to get kids to try new stuff! I may be copying your rating system :)
Neat idea. And judging from what I've seen at your house, perhaps Cole fed most of this thumbs down dinner to Bailey. Only kidding-you're a great cook.
