Is this real life?

Quite a few weeks ago, a video on YouTube became quite famous. It was of a young boy just after dental surgery still overcoming the effects of anesthesia. He's very out of it and his thought process is all over the place. I think Will has a touch of anesthesia. My buzz word for him is focus.

If we're leaving to go somewhere I can...let the dogs out, put necessary items in the car, get coat and shoes on Cole, get coat and shoes on self, assure house is locked up, put small dog in crate, assure Paige is ready, take a potty break and more in the time that Will has sat down and fiddled with one shoe (usually while humming and getting sidetracked by a toy). This is eternally frustrating to me but it is very unproductive to yell at him because then he bursts into tears and focuses ONLY ON THAT until you attempt to calm him and assure him you're not mad at him (even though you kind of are). SO...a couple days ago we developed a "leaving plan" for Will. He has a certain place to go sit and try to get his shoes on himself (something he can do with ease if he actually - yep - focuses). This would not be right in front of the garage door where he usually lands to accomplish this monumental task. As I am doing the above to-do list, I speak the steps he needs to take to assure he has the right shoe on the right foot and isn't stepping on the tongue, etc. This has worked....but really? Must it be this involved? Is this real life?

First of all, I love that video.

Secondly, yes, this is real life. Will is Luke. Except I'm two years ahead of you, and no further along in the process. THankfully, his teacher says it's absolutely not an issue in the classroom. He just saves it up for me.

I'm anxious to hear whether the "leaving plan" works out!

While I don't think they are that great for feet or safety - it's almost Crocs season!! This will help boost Wills confidence don't ya think!!
