10 Steps to a Drama-Free Day

Thursday, January 12, 2012
  1. Insist that your 3-year old goes to the bathroom before preschool even if he says he doesn't have to go.  His waiting-to-the-last-minute habit lately will result in a wardrobe change at school.  Again.
  2. Remind your 1st grader about staying aware of where the afternoon bus is to avoid the bus driver shutting the door and pulling away with him and his friend still on the bus.
  3. On a related note, don't charge on the bus you just hailed down looking for your son, because that's frowned upon, apparently.
  4. Remind daughter that her math is getting more difficult; it's going to take longer than 3 minutes and that rushing for the sake of a watching TV will result in multiple mistakes and, therefore, no TV.
  5. Don't suck your dog's tie-out cable up in your snow blower.  It won't go well.
  6. Don't take your minivan out for an errand, because your sliding door will get jammed and won't open OR close all the way, only to work perfectly when you have your husband take a look at it.
  7. Don't enable Internet on your daughter's DSi.  Because this will lead to the need for setting parental controls, and she will likely protest.
  8. Don't buy a large new winter coat for your 6-year old hoping it will last 2 seasons because he won't like the bulk and will wig out at the mere idea of trying it on (which will lead to exchange errand mentioned in #6).
  9. Don't be outside shoveling your driveway when the new plow company is plowing your cul-de-sac because he probably isn't a pro and won't be watching out for you.  Hailing down a bus when the plow is at work...also not a good idea.
  10. DO have some me time at the end of the day.  Because there's no telling what type of drama the next day will bring.
