The Sandlot

Monday, June 1, 2009
Okay, sparked by Nicole's recent Facebook post of a segment from the movie "The Sandlot," we watched it again today. I love that my kids love that movie. And I don't just love the part where Squints fakes drowning so he can kiss the lifeguard. I love the 1950s values:
1. Bunch of friends + big open space = fun for a whole summer
2. Benny takes in a less-than-great player who becomes one of the guys
3. They don't have parents handing them a new baseball everytime they lose one over the fence; they have to come up with the $.98 themselves
4. Patriotism
5. Lack of overscheduled kids
6. Freedom to roam the neighborhood without so much fear

This movie is highly recommended by me for kids aged 1-100.

I could not agree more! One of best not-quite-coming-of-age movies. Ever.
