In the next two days we will be gathering to say goodbye to and celebrate the life of my grandfather, Eli. He was 90 years old. Of course, there is comfort knowing that he lived this long, full life. However, that same thought leads to increased sadness as you realize we've lost that source of unmatched life experiences and that link to our history.
For some reason, my kids could never distinguish him from my father when we would talk about them. Will coined the phrase "big grandpa" and we've used that since. Saying great grandpa didn't work because, after all, their grandpa (my dad) was great, too. But certainly, great was Grandpa Eli.

Sorry to hear about your loss Karen. How amazing though that your children got to meet & enjoy the man you grew up knowing. They are blessed for getting to know him!
Most of us would be so lucky to live a long, satisfying life like he did. He was a wonderful guy, that seems to run in the cumpata family =)
love you xo.
