Recently I'm having reminders that my kids are only getting older. I try so hard not to dwell on missing baby days, etc., and focus more on being excited for what's to come. But hearing those little hands slapping on the tile floor as Cole zooms across the house on his hands and knees is music to my ears. I will miss that as he is now standing on his own and will be walking oh-so-soon.
Cole has also graduated to the regular table with a booster now. Bye-bye high chair. He also used to snuggle with me as we would settle down with a drink before bed at night. Now he would much rather sit in between the big kids on the couch.
And Paige is having a "prep for 1st grade" week at school this week. Today they wrote down some curious questions they had about first grade:
1. Will my teecher bee a boi or a gerl?
2. Will I hav home werck?
3. Wut will my teecher's name bee?
4. Will I hav pe clas?
5. Hoo will bee my pe koch?
The thought of having her gone all day I can't even fathom just yet. I need ALL of summer to get used to that idea.
And Will is showing signs of maturity in the form of compassion for others. He gave Cole a 2 minute lecture about how Milo (the dog) is an animal and can't tell Cole that he doesn't like his tail to be squeezed. Then this evening Paige had a headache and Will fetched her a pillow, blanket, and her baby to relax with on the couch. Awwww.
That's why I need a reminder like the following that they are, indeed, still little kids:
Will, eating a random bag of fruit snacks he found in the cabinet, held two up that were stuck together and announced, "Look, I got a devil!"
Me: "Will, that's DOUBLE."
