The subject of food

I know so many parents' main complaint about kids and food is getting them to eat enough. I have to say we're lucky not to have that problem. If the OPPOSITE can be a problem, we probably sway more towards that side. And I'm not talking chips and cookies, although those make it in the diet readily. I'm talking regular healthy meals eaten in ginormous amounts.

Here is an example. Tonight I was going to grill steaks. We SO rarely have steak, and ground beef makes it in the menu slightly more, but seldom. Every now and then, though, a great steak sounds perfect (to me and Rich). Well, apparently that was true of the kids, too. I bought two large T-bone steaks and every last morsel was eaten! (Cole didn't have steak, which means 2 to a steak - whoa).

At breakfast I'm serving fruit, muffins, and when that doesn't fill them up PB&J. At lunch, I have MANY times had to tell Paige that the food is gone; she'll have to grab and apple or something if she's not full. And I'm not feeding them a cup of Easy Mac and calling it lunch, either. A typical lunch might be a rather large serving of mac 'n cheese, green beans, and cantaloupe. Very rarely is there ANYTHING left on their plates afterwards (except for Will's veggie depending on the day).

I'm oh-so-worried about what my grocery bill will be when they are more active tweens and teens. AND we bought a house with no pantry!! I see demolition in my future - or prehaps just an addition...of a big Sam's Club style pantry!

That's so funny, and I see that trend developing with Lauren as well. Like Renee, she has no "full button". She will eat until you stop feeding her. It's hard to gauge how much is "enough" for a 7 month old baby, though. Do you feed her until she's satisfied, or do you gauge what's in the bowl and determine that to be sufficient?

Oh, and I forgot to add...I have some design ideas for a FABULOUS pantry for you. :)

...with no demolition required. I should learn to finish my thoughts before sending these comments. Sheesh.

too funny that we are both writing about food! Maybe we can help each other figure out how to make cheap, yet healthy AND large-in-quantity meals. I fear for my financial future when we have three teenaged boys!!
