A year ago today I gave birth to a beautiful 7 lb 6 oz boy that we named Cole Everett. It was the "easiest" birthing experience of my three and he was an adorable little bundle. No feeling is quite like that which you have when you're in the hospital with nothing to focus on but your new addition. So why I was itching to get out of there the next day is beyond me - except maybe that it was the first 70 degree day of the year and I couldn't wait to just get him home and keep him.
The following months equalling this year have been a bit challenging with everything from early feeding problems, a urology appointment, colic, an ER visit, diagnoses of food allergies and many acute illnesses. Now, with a year under his belt, we see more and more of the sweetheart that is Cole. He LOVES to feel like one of the gang; like his brother, has an affinity for cars; is the best scooter driver of the three; was mobile earlier than the other 2; is an avid climber; has evolved into a great sleeper; has 6 teeth; can walk with support; can speak volumes with his facial expressions; and has the sweetest cooing voice.
While the whole family has played a role in teaching Cole some of these tricks, he has really taught us profound lessons in this short year as well. We know more about patience, compassion, connecting with others to truly understand them, the innnocence of a child and the fragility of life. He can't speak yet and doesn't walk on his own which might seem like a nuissance. Instead, we feel completely lost if he's not around. So happy birthday to Cole!
