Today was Will's second try at his Kid Rock class. We had been doing some role-playing at home per a suggestion I read online. He actually started initiating playing school, which was a good sign. While this was true, I wasn't sure it would have much impact on how he handled going back to class. So, to seal the deal, I told him that if he can be a big boy with no crying or complaining, he and I could go get a (matchbox) monster truck at the store. That's right; it's a bribe. Actually another mom at the class said it's not a bribe; it's a reward! Much more positive connotation. Well, he went in (without me) and didn't protest at all, but didn't participate either. At all. It's crazy to imagine. They were sliding bean bags across the floor, etc. HOW COULD YOU NOT WANT TO DO THAT? But I was elated that it was not another stressful event. And he held up his end of the deal, so we will be going to pick out the "reward" later today. ANY step in a positive direction is great with me

Paige cracked me up today because she didn't want to wear her hat to school. Since it is Antarctica outside today, I was insisting. She was always a fan of wearing her hat and often wore it indoors after getting home from somewhere. But those were her preschool days. Then the truth came out. Those little fleece strings on the top just aren't cool. So, I took the scissors to them and she was off to school with warm ears! Next, she'll be telling me that things I'm wearing aren't cool. Oh well, maybe I could use the fashion help!

a. Is Kid Rock really there? Cuz I'd be afraid to participate too.

b. Glad it went better today! This is a step in the right direction.

c. Paige is growing up! SOO funny that she "knew" those strings weren't cool. I have the last picture of her in a little girl hat on my blog today!

I'm proud of Will. It's just so funny to imagine a Will that's not annimated and silly :)

Um, this hat comment by Paige makes me nervous to xmas shop for her - what if I pick out "geeky" clothes!! I love my little fashionista!!

I am so enjoying keeping up with your family on a day to day basis. You need to convince Sarah to do one of these. Riley is an encyclopedic index of entertainment! Opinion time...:

I think you're doing the right thing by sticking with it as far as Will goes - he's such a little trooper. I think, in time, he will learn to truly enjoy it. (As long as he's not crying 'til he pukes about going! That's when you know he REALLY doesn't want to go!!) I totally agree with the mom who classified the monster truck as a reward and not a bribe. If he's finding it difficult to separate from you and/or comfortable surroundings, a reward for conquering that fear is justly deserved.

Paige is just too funny. I'm sure that, given the time, she would have told you every single thing that was SO not cool about that hat. And yes, your days of "Um..Mom? Why are you wearing THOSE jeans?" are coming. Bet on it. Look forward to it. Embrace it. There's no getting around it. Wait until you have the tights vs. no tights vs. panty hose battle. Fun, fun, fun!! :)
